The Asian Identity is So So Beautiful
Hong Kong-born and British-raised photographer Alexandra Leese often explores the concept of identity in her work. And in a time where our identities are being questioned, there is a subtle, curious yet strongly poignant message she wants to share: the Asian identity is so so beautiful. To continue that narrative, we showcase a collection of her images that represent just that.
Words by Alex in the wake of the Asian hate crimes occurring worldwide:
Thinking of all families and loved ones going through unimaginable heartbreak.
Discrimination and racism experienced by Asians has been invisible within western society for a long time... I have so many things I want to say on this topic but honestly it’s quite overwhelming and I trust that if you are here on my page you are already or at least starting to learn how to support and hear us. So many people out there showing solidarity (on and offline) I see you!! It means a lot.
Violence and hate has no place in this world.
We are all affected by the same toxic systems that are causing great pain, especially to those that these systems are just not designed to care for.
I truly hope this unites us instead of dividing us further, and we continue to protect and stand up for each other, as there is nothing more powerful and frightening to them than that!
